Buncombe County Schools
The Buncombe County School system is the 10th largest school system and is the county’s second largest employer, with nearly 4,000 faculty and staff. The Buncombe County School system serves nearly 25,000 students in 41 schools, with more than 50 different languages being spoken throughout. Serving the Black Mountain area, this school system works hard to provide a safe, caring, and engaging academic atmosphere that prepares all students to become responsible citizens. The county is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The Buncombe County School system has one of the highest percentages of nationally board certified teachers in the state and region.

Focusing on the Montessori approach to child-centered learning, Swannanoa Valley
Montessori School was founded as a non-profit school in 2003 by parents who sought a creative active learning environment for their young children. Today, the school serves children ranging from 18 months to 12 years of age. The school offers a safe, secure, supportive, and stimulating environment helping each child gain confidence, self-motivation, and cooperation through community awareness and enthusiasm for life-long learning. They are currently working to expand their school to meet community needs. Swannanoa Valley Montessori School is a Full Member School of the American Montessori Society (AMS), and works to mold children into individuals who respect themselves and the world they live in.

Stone Mountain School
Designed to help boys 11 to 17 with learning disabilities, ADHD behaviors such as impulsivity-hyperactivity, inattention, or lack of focus, and non-verbal learning disorders, Stone Mountain Boarding School for Boys provides the means for these boys to succeed both academically and socially. Stone Mountain School is a SACs-accredited, state-licensed, year-round school that features a "combined" instructional approach.

Warren Wilson College
