Marion North Carolina

History

Properties for sale in MarionEstablished in 1845, the City of Marion was named for Revolutionary War hero, General Francis Marion who was instrumental in defeating the British. During this time, the settlers proudly built the town with facilities modern to the times. In 1894, a blazing fire destroyed the entire town of Marion, including the railroad tracks needed to bring vital supplies to its citizens.

During this time, the citizens of Marion banned together to rebuild their town. The townsfolk doubled up in the remaining buildings and created a plan for an even more elaborate town square. In a few years, the determined town folk built new facilities including a court house which still remains today.
