Life in Old Fort, North Carolina

The fort, built before the Declaration of Independence, served as the westernmost outpost for the colonial militia. It was named Davidson's Fort after the Davidson brothers who bought the land where the fort stood. The town of Old Fort was established as a result of the Western Carolina Railroad that brought increased tourism, local businesses as well as industrial opportunities. Old Fort real estate dates back to the late 19th century. The fort is currently being rebuilt by a non-profit organization, Davidson's Fort Historic Park.

The most popular attractions in Old Fort include Andrews Geyser and Arrowhead Mountain. Andrews Geyser is a man-made fountain that was constructed in approximately 1885. It can shoot water to 100 feet at times. Arrowhead Mountain is located in the heart of Old Fort. Built in 1930, Arrowhead Monument is a hand-chiseled granite monument built to honor the peace treaty between the settlers and the Native Americans.
